AFHS Theatre
Past Productions

Beginning with our first mainstage production in 2017, AFHS Theatre has grown into a premier Wake County Public High School Theatre program. 

Fall 2024

The Giver

November 15 - 16, 2024

Jonas' world is perfect. Everything is under control and safe. There is no war or fear or pain. There are also no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. But when Jonas turns 12, he is chosen for special training from The Giver—to receive and keep the memories of the community. The Giver is the only person who holds the memories of real pain and real joy. Now Jonas will learn the truth about life—and the hypocrisy of his utopian world.

Spring 2024

The Addams Family

March 14 - 16, 2024

Winner of the DPAC Rising Stars Award for Best Costumes, AFHS's production of The Addams Family was also nominated for Best Actress (Gabriella Martinez), Best Lighting Design, Best Set Design, Best Ensemble, and Best Musical.  The Addams family tells the story of families who accept each other completely, champion the extraordinary, and in the face of adversity, rally and overcome.

Fall 2023

Clue

November 17 - 18, 2023

Six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects. Led by Wadsworth – the butler, Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock and Colonel Mustard race to find the killer as the body count stacks up.

March 23 - 25, 2023

DPAC Triangle Rising Stars Nominee for Best Lighting Design, Best Set Design and Best Student Orchestra.  Anastasia transports its audience from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past.

She Kills Monsters

November 4 - 5, 2022

A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games! In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres and 90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

Mary Poppins

March 31 - April 2, 2022

Winner of the Triangle Rising Stars Award for Best Ensemble, AFHS's production of Mary Poppins was also nominated for Best Actress (Hannah Szemereta), Best Actor (Maximiliano Fernandez Escalona),  Best Student Orchestra, Best Choreography, and Best Musical. AFHS Theatre's Spring 2022 production of Mary Poppins welcomed musical theatre goers back with hope, magic, and possibilities.

Fall 2021

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

October 28-30, 2021

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow marked our return to the stage in 2021. AFHS Theatre transported the community back in time, and told the ageless tale of Ichabod Crane's ill-fated visit to the little town of Sleepy Hollow.

Cinderella

March 19 - 21, 2020

The AFHS Performing Arts Department only had one magical night to perform Cinderella before midnight struck and the world turned into a pumpkin for a year and a half.  Undeterred, the company dazzled a dress rehearsal audience with the tale that teaches that nothing is Impossible.

Greater Tuna

November 14 - 16, 2019

Performed in the Fall of 2019, Greater Tuna isn’t just about self-centered people. It’s about how ALL of us get stuck in our own small worlds- and all we need is a little help and a little faith, to guide us through our path.

DPAC Triangle Rising Stars Nominee for Best Actress (Emma Johnson), Best Actor (Elliot Stanford) and Best Musical.  The Music Man brings laughter and love into the lives of the lovably stubborn citizens of River City, Iowa.

Peter and the Starcatcher

October 25 - 27, 2018

Welcome to the story of Peter Pan... or at least the story of how Peter Pan came to be. From orphan to the boy who will never grow up, Peter goes on quite the adventure with two of his fellow Lost Boys and Molly, the captains daughter with a magical secret. When Blackstache tries to steal the magical Starsuff, Molly must recruit her new friends to keep it from falling into the wrong hands (or hooks).

Spring 2018

Seussical

March 15 - 17, 2018

Join the Cat in the Hat as he tells the story of Jojo, a little Who with a big imagination, and Horton, a big elephant with a bigger heart. When Horton finds a fuzz with the Whos on it, he and Jojo become fast friends. But when Mayzie La Bird leaves Horton with her egg, he has to balance the two in the crazy jungle. Good thing he has the help of Gertrude McFuzz, who never loses faith in her friend.

Fall 2017

You Can't Beat the House

November 16 - 18, 2017

When two burglars break into a house expecting an easy target, they quickly discover how wrong they are. A couple show up, forcing the thieves to pretend to be real estate agents to keep out of trouble. When the REAL real estate agent shows up, along with a cop searching for two suspicious characters, the burglars have to juggle everyone without blowing their cover.

Disney's High School Musical

March 16 - 18, 2017

Troy Bolton, a basketball player on the Wildcats team, and Gabriella, a team member on the school's decathlon team, share a passion: Theatre. But with the whole school telling them they need to stick to their groups, will they be able to come together and do what they love?
